Acupuncture

Acupuncture uses hair-fine sterile needles to stimulate specific points on the body. These acupuncture points are bundles of nerves and capillaries, and when stimulated acts like a super highway, to transmit a signal to the brain via the nervous system. This then causes the brain to release endorphins which are the body’s natural pain killers. This also regulates the function of the nerves, to interrupt pain transmission or increase nerve conduction in cases of neuropathy and numbness.

Acupuncture also helps to dilate blood vessels and increase blood flow to the areas stimulated. This helps to allow healing substances and immune cells into tissues with inadequate blood flow, to promote healing and remove inflammatory substances.

Essentially, acupuncture helps to promote natural healing and homeostasis, which is the body’s way of adapting and balancing the nervous, circulatory, endocrine, and immune systems.
